Why should Calcium Ex be added to the water? What does it do?

All water contains various dissolved substances in varying concentrations. These include calcium, magnesium and sulphates. These substances are responsible for the hardness of the water. The water also contains metals such as iron, copper and manganese. All these substances are present in the water in ionised form.

These substances settle when the water is heated and swirled. Solid calcium and magnesium deposits can form and adhere to the pipes and bathtub shell. Fats and oils from the skin or cosmetics stick to these rough surfaces and serve as a food source for bacteria. These bacteria form biofilms to protect themselves from disinfectants.

When Calcium Ex is used, calcium and magnesium molecules are ‘complexed’. This means that they take on a different molecular structure when they transition from their ionised form to their solid form. As a result, they can no longer adhere to the pipe walls and deposits are effectively prevented – the limescale is simply filtered out.

Metals in the water can cause discolouration and cloudiness. Complexation with Calcium Ex prevents this and the metals are also filtered out.

Summary:

Calcium Ex does not soften the water, but it prevents deposits from forming and the water from becoming discoloured or cloudy.

Application:

• Shake thoroughly before use.
• For the correct dosage when refilling, please refer to the diagrams for your whirlpool in the water care instructions.
• For the monthly dosage, add 50 ml of Calcium Ex per 1,000 litres of water.
• Add proportionally when refilling with water.
