What is the pH value?

What exactly is the pH value?

  • The pH value indicates whether the water is alkaline or acidic.
  • It is the basis of a good water quality in the whirlpool.
  • The measuring scale ranges from 1 (acidic) to 14 (alkaline)
  • At 7 the pH value is neutral.
  • The pH value has a logarithmic structure. A pH of 6 is 10 times more acidic than a pH of 7.0.

For comparison, here are some pH values of liquids that we frequently encounter in everyday life:

  • Lemon juice: 2,4
  • Coke: 2,0 bis 3,0
  • Beer: 4,5 bis 5,0
  • Human skin: 5,5
  • Mineral eater: 6,0
  • Milk: 6,5
  • Blood: 7,4
  • Soap: 9,0 bis 10,0
  • Bleaching agent: 12,5
  • Sodium hydroxide: 13,5 bis 14

The ideal pH value for the whirlpool water

A pH value of 5.5 would be ideal for human skin. In the whirlpool, a permanent pH below 6.0 can lead to corrosion. Eye irritations can occur in humans because our tear fluid has a pH value between 7 and 7.5.

A permanent pH value above 7.8 can lead to clouding of the water and a pinch on the skin because the skin has a pH value of 5.5. If the pH value exceeds 8.0, lime loss may occur. This lime can cloud the water and settle in the pipes.

We therefore recommend a pH value between 6.8 and a maximum of 7.8 for the SpaBalancer system care.
